Historical significance ---- Ok I know the Dallas Texans became the KC Chiefs and the Houston Oilers became the TN Titans, and the Browns became the Ravens. I know Bud Adams is hated in Houston but why wouldn't the Houston expansion team take the old name like the Browns did when they got a new franchise? Why wouldn't have Dallas retaken the Texans name?

Gee I soooooooooooooooooooo confused.

The Cowboys didn't take the Texans name because the two teams were started in the same year, so the Cowboys already had their name. The name Oilers belongs to Bud Adams, so the new Houston team couldn't take it.

Was just reading about the Vikings, Brad Childress, and Brett Favre...not known yet whether Brett will start on Sunday or not. Wow...how would you like to be the coach to bench Favre and end his 291-game starting streak?

Oh, and I'm still glad I'm not playing fantasy football. :D

I have lost interest in the Vikings and their ongoing soap opera. I'll be surprised if they make the playoffs, given their weakness in the offensive line.

I think Favre would bench himself before Childress would have the balls to do it. Meanwhile, Favre is there because Childress (and teammates) urged him to come back. We've all seen the pix of what Favre's body looked like after that last play-off game, AND the look on his face. That man was NOT coming back this year or ever. Well, he's back and more bruised and broken than ever before. I hope all of them are suffering as much as he is--and most of all, I wish that someone, ANYone would sit Favre down BEFORE he is so badly injured that he can't shake it off...

No matter who urged Farve to return, the decision was his. He certainly had to be aware of the consequences. The best thing for the team is to bench him now and start rebuilding the team without him. He was a gamble that the team made that didn't pay off.

I fly out to Indy in about 3 hours. I need to spray my Colts repellant.

I've also gave Cribbs the site, so he will be here soon.

Two Texas high school football teams set a national record Friday night, playing a staggering 12 overtimes and scoring a combined 165 points, according to KLTV in Texas.

Jacksonville defeated Nacogdoches 84-81 in a game where both teams were vying to advance to the playoffs. Jacksonville only had to win to advance, but Nacogdoches had to win by 8 points to keep its postseason hopes alive, which led to the marathon game that lasted nearly 5 ½ hours.

Nacogdoches could have won the game on multiple occasions by making a 2-point conversion, but instead intentionally threw the ball out the back of the end zone, forcing another overtime session and yet another chance to win by 8 points.

The game was tied at 28 at the end of regulation before the teams played for another 2 ½ hours, according to KLTV.

In the 12th overtime, Nacogdoches took possession but fumbled inside the 10-yard line.

Jacksonville then took six plays to move to the 2-yard line before kicking the game-winning field goal.

I agree with that. NO ONE made Favre return except Favre. He wears his big boy undies under his Wranglers. And his decision to return for yet another season doesn't seem to be suiting ANYONE well. Disappointing...but there comes a time when enough is enough.

The Vikes have released Randy Moss? So they gave up a 3rd round pick for 3 games of service? And I thought the 49er managemment was assinine.

As many problems as the Vikings have, I don't think that releasing Randy Moss will help much.

ESPN said that Randy said he was frustrated that the Vikings players and coaches ignored his locker room praises of the Patriots and how they operate in New England. =SMH=

Exactly. He HAD to be cut. He straight up "dissed" the Vikings. As bad as the Vikings are, at least they let a malcontent go that would have destroyed what little is left of the Vikings season. Cut the cord and move ahead. On the other side of that coin I saw Randy Moss like I have never seen him before... regretfully for mistakes made that led him to be traded from the Patriots.

I saw the same thing, kicks. It was only after he was gone that Randy realized that at the Patriots he was being told how to succeed. I can understand that, because I've done the same.

Reports say Moss will probably be wearing a Seahawk, Dolphin, Titan or Ram helmet by tomorrow evening.

Dred, it's actually 3 million left on this year's contract.

Releasing Randy Moss won't help a defense that suddenly can't stop the run any more or an offensive line that can't block for runs or passes.
