Kevin Patra - NFL Network wrote:If Shane Ray translates the passion and fire he displayed during his media sessions Thursday night onto the field, the Denver Broncos will be plenty happy with their first-round pick.

For the second consecutive day in Chicago, Ray faced the media following his Monday citation for marijuana possession. The Missouri product reiterated that he knows he made a mistake and told Broncos executive vice president John Elway it won't happen again.

"I guaranteed Mr. Elway that I will not have any issues," Ray told a swarm of reporters. "As I said before, I'm not a person who has character issues at all."

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported that due to his citation, Ray will begin his NFL career in the league's substance abuse program. He will be tested frequently for two years, per league sources.

On Thursday the fired-up Ray said it meant "even more" that the Broncos were willing to trade up in order to target him. The defensive end said he plans to repay Denver by helping "dominate everybody we play."

Isn't weed legal in Denver...kind of hard to avoid it

Slated as a top-10 pick prior to his incident, Ray was incensed that some teams passed on him because of one "mistake."

"I will let all those teams know they made the hugest mistake of this draft,
" he said.

The 21-year-old conceded that the timing of his misstep was problematic, adding the past week has helped him grow as a person. But Ray was dismissive about people snickering any 'marijuana is legal in Colorado' jokes.

"Just because I was cited for marijuana possession doesn't mean I'm this huge smoker or some huge drug addict," Ray said. "If anybody looks at the police report, they'll understand I wasn't even under the influence. I haven't had any marijuana issues in my career. ... That's not a concern for me at all."

What is a concern for Ray is paying back all the teams who felt like he wasn't worth the risk.

"This does nothing but add fuel to my fire," he said. "I hope those teams understand that this is the kind of person I am. I will use this is as motivation. And I hope that I see every one of those teams. ... Oh yeah, (those teams that passed on me) they're all circled, best believe. Mentally, each team that passed me is circled."

Now it's time for Ray to walk the walk.

Yeah...I'm even more excited about this kid now. He's going to be able to take his time acclimating to the league learning behind one of the best. I know Phillips will get him in the mix and that will help keep Wade fresh during the season too. Good all around for Denver!

I like the Shane Ray pick myself. We need depth at linebacker and he fills that need nicely.

Second Round Mocks:

WalterFootball - Garrett Grayson - QB - Colorado State. This would be the spot, but I think there are more pressing needs.
ProFootballTalk - Duke Johnson - RB -Miami. No words for this...dumbest thing I've seen mocked for Denver.
NFL.com - Mitch Morse - OG - Missouri. An interior OL that seems like a solid pick.
CBSSports - Ali Marpet - OG - Hobart. I know nothing about this guy, but he's rated higher than Morse in a couple spots.

The only question I have is for the PFT guy...a RB? Really? Denver has 4 young RBs that have had solid success at one point or another already on the roster...oh yeah, they ALL fit in Kubiak's system too. Are they even trying over there?

Those that can't do... Write.

Write mock drafts that is. As CK is an author I have to make that clear.

So let me ask the question...would anyone want La'el Collins tonight? He's saying he won't play if he isn't drafted tonight...kind of ballsy to me. I get where he's coming from kind of...he's a first round talent and is just wanted for questioning. I also get teams avoiding him like the plague as he would cost them a draft pick and there is a gigantic unknown as to his involvement in what happened.

I'm sure there is some information out there as to what the real deal is. I'm a full on Elway believer. If he says yes, I trust that he's done his homework. If he says no, then I trust there's something more to it. Here's what I know, Denver landed a guy that was supposed to go in the top 8 at #23 and gave up next to nothing to do it. Imagine getting another projected top 10 pick at the bottom of the second round? He's got the ability to play RT or either OG spot.

In the end, he likely goes undrafted tonight, but it's fun to imagine a draft where Denver takes advantage of a bad week and gets two top flight players in the process!

Here's what I know...Elway knows how to play this game...how frustrating it must be to be a fan of another team in the AFC West! Elway kicked their ass as a QB and is now doing the same as an executive! Love it!

Depends on what the Broncos know about Collins. Hate to burn a 2nd rounder if he's guilty of something. If he isn't? He would be a deal in the 2nd and a steal in the third or 4th. It'll be interesting to see how far he drops before someone takes a flyer on him. If there is more to his involvement than we know......nobody will touch him with a 10 foot pole. Smoking weed is one thing but involvement in a murder case is quite something else. And his threatening to quit if he isn't drafted today is another turn off. We don't need some childish prima donna on the Broncos no matter how talented he is and certainly no one involved in a murder.

Then you couple with the fact the police have been trying to get a hold of him and talk to him but he held out and finally negotiated through his agent to talk with them. His agent? Really? I can see a Lawyer being present as a rights precaution but his agent? Why didn't he go in and talk with them by now? Smells fishy to me. Makes me think he was either he's involved in the shooting or knows, or suspects, someone else and is upholding some street code of honor by not snitching...which would be troubling in itself.

Or....he's so wrapped up in his sudden self importance he thinks he can address a murder inquiry when he feels like it. I don't think anyone will touch him except...maybe in the late 6th or 7th round when they have a pick they feel they can burn just to prevent someone else from getting him.

In any event he sounds like big trouble to me.

Grayson and Hundley are dropping as well as all of the rest of the QB's not named Winston or Mariota. That could prove interesting later on.
