Evan Mathis said this of his performance:
"I think I was the worst of the group," Mathis said. "I would’ve liked us to be able to run the ball a little better. Overall, we were a little inconsistent. There were some highs and lows, but … that kind of stuff is very valuable for it to happen where you can learn from it."
And he's probably right...PFF gave his the lowest Oline grade (-3.3) with a -2.3 pass blocking grade. But in a twisted sense, that gives me hope for this offense! Mathis has been the 1st or 2nd highest graded OG in football for the last 4 years...I highly doubt he's suddenly fallen off the performance cliff, so I'm going to chalk his struggles up to getting such a late start with the squad. Every practice that goes by, he should be solidifying his understanding of the playbook and learning how to complement the two rookies next to him. Teams are going to going to emulate the Ravens by bringing up waves of A-gap pressure, but Mathis should get those holes plugged up in a jiff. Also, his forte is zone-run blocking, so I see some dominant games ahead for CJ and Ronnie.

Good one but I know he has always had a weak arm the problem I have with Peyton is his legs. We need a mobile QB to run the west coast. Elway was old but he could still run the helicopter play. Peyton couldn't do that. That's all I'm saying. His legs are gone. he can't run

We get it Hop....you don't like Manning....lol

My hesitation is OZ scares me in a regular season game.

I like Manning have his jersey in white and blue. But I LOVE the Broncos. Manning was old last season week 11 until the playoff game he looked old. Say he was injured fine he was injured. Now he looks old and can't run away from being sacked because the unit has to gel. When will the fans stop looking at Manning 's play with hopes of his rejuvenating his seasons past when he could move in the pocket which he can't do now (lays down and gives himself up.) I like him just don't want his memory to be like Mays. (Willy Mays)

Hopefully this will give you a glimmer of hope, Hoppy:

The gist is that Denver struggled MOST when they tried to stick with the 3-4 WR shotgun sets that Manning used extensively last year...the run and pass blocking both suffered in the old system. When Denver went with the 2-TE sets (with Manning under center) on that last drive, the offense finally kicked into gear. Manning went 5/5 for 38 yards and the RBs had 11 carries for 53 yards (4.8 YPC)...They ended up kicking a field goal, but I think we'd all agree that the entire offense looked their best on that drive. It's only a 1 drive sample, but it gives me hope that a version of Kubes offense might actual work, even with Old Man Manning!

I think it reinforces my belief That Peyton isn't good in the west coast. 62.3% of the plays were in the old offense 3 and 4 WR's. If brock was in there it would be *0 % or more Kub's Offense.

I would say he was pretty good in the WC offense, if only for the single drive...It could just be that Kubes was overly cautious in trying to transition the game-day play calling from the old system to his WC offense. Trying to straddle both systems may have put the line (who are built for the WC) in a poor position, which in turn put Manning in a tough spot (no run game, too much pass-rush pressure). I'm not saying the smoke coming from the kitchen isn't cause for alarm, but maybe a bigger sample of plays in the WC offense is needed before we evacuate the building.

Oh contrair my big headed friend....I will always bring up my Bucs when chatting with you.....the cubbies are hot and you called that in the beginning of the year...good call...I thought they'd be 2 years away. We do have the harder schedule to finish the season...but your starting pitching staff is tired..too many innings...where the Bucs rested AJ and Cole, plus we added Happ and Soria....I think we are better off...plus this stretch will prepare us for the playoffs.
As for my Raiders...it was only a bump in the road....shit happens...we have better talent and better coaches then in years past...so beware week 4.....the Silver and Black will be in town...tell Tyler I said hello..the smartest guy in the Hoppy family...Hope your feeling better, though... looks like you are...there's some fight in ya..

I can't be that generous until I see the offense show some serious improvement...I think there is a decent chance that will happen, but I'm nagged by a kernel of doubt until Manning proves he can execute this Kubiak system. If so? Denver has their best chance to win another ring since 1999.

I was just trying to cheer everyone up. Lol. Remember....we've only played the first game with new coaches, new players, new offensive scheme, new defense......and hopefully the same good looking cheerleaders.

I can live with that as soon as they show me he can I'm happy the talent on this team is better than it's ever been on D That can win a ring as Mac said if the offense comes around. Utah I've been saying the same thing since John hired Kubiak. Same thing

On a different note....I'm in Moab for my 3 week visit and all of the rooms were sold out but 2 in town.I took one as sleeping in the company truck isn't my idea of a good time but you out to see the digs I got for 136 bucks. It's a cottage....brand new with colors out of an Alice in Wonderland flick. I'm quite pleasantly surprised.

So are you the Puppy or Caterpillar in the story?
Puppy One of the nonpersonified or unanimated animals; he is of monstrous size (to Alice), and he almost crushes Alice in his playfulness after she flees from the White Rabbit's house.

Caterpillar The water-pipe smoking character whom Alice finds on a mushroom. He is disagreeable and insulting to Alice. But he provides her with knowledge of the growth-altering mushroom.

Utah - don't be cutting any peep holes in the cottage next door. But if you do, send pics. lol

Springs - Glad you figured out the message system.

Looking forward to a good game on Thursday night. Chiefs might be due. But I hope not. This will be a good evaluation for both of the teams.

Go Broncos!!!!
