Even running the West Coast offense, any QB will be running for his life or getting rid of the ball in less than 2 seconds tops. I was timing the pass rush last week and if the ball was held longer than a second and a half the QB was dead meat. OZ is no Wilson.....and even Wilson would be running for his life behind this line. I know we miss Clady but at his price he's expendable next year as he has trouble staying healthy. Hopefully Kubiak can work with the line and at least get them serviceable.
This will grow into a good line in time it may take the whole season. We have a rookie at LT and a LG who is feeling his way into the system. Center who is a second year PS player. Might as well call him a rookie. RT who has played in the system is the only one who has. Vasquez at RT is learning this system. But they are learning Manning's system also. Brock moves better than Peyton that's why I believe he would be a better QB for the team Now. It will help the line because they only have to learn one system. I know you don't think much of Brock but at this time he is the best we have for all the reasons I've listed IMO.
Great discussion, fellas! Here is a question for everyone...if Manning does stay the starter, should Kubes/Denny scrap the WC and go full shotgun, scrap the shotgun and go full WC (but without the rollouts), or keep using a hybrid at the beginning of each game and then favor what ever system seems to be working that day? I personally like keeping the D's guessing, but I honestly don't know how much of that is stunting the OL's improvement. Ultimately, I would like to see if Manning can function in a modified WC offense, but I just don't know if he has enough deep accuracy left to capitalize on play action, and if the line can't figure out how to run-block as a unit, it's a moot point anyway.
I would keep the WC . Next season is what you have to play for . Manning will be gone and the QB will need his line to know the Offense. You built the line for your system go with it. Manning will have to adapt the great one can. He will have to work on his rollouts it's a big part of the WC and without it the defenses will just keep teeing off on the pocket like they are now. The future is WC it starts now or next season we'll be in worst shape because the elite will be gone.
KC was rushing the outside most of the game last week. I don't think Detroit has as good of defense as KC though so the line should perform better.
