Denver Broncos general manager John Elway said Thursday that trade talks with the San Francisco 49ers are "dormant."
"It's dormant," Elway said. "He's been working out from what I understand, so, that's all I can say about it."
Elway noted a trade offer remains on the table: "Everything's right there."
NFL Insider Ian Rapoport previously reported the Broncos want Kaepernick to take a pay cut to facilitate a trade. Elway and Kaepernick met two weeks ago to advance the feeling-out process, but an agreement never materialized.
Mark Sanchez currently sits atop the Broncos' depth chart. Elway clearly isn't done adding quarterbacks.
"We're going to have someone compete with Mark and he's one of the possibilities," Elway said.
Added the GM: "We're happy with Mark. Mark's excited about being here. We're excited about having him."
Elway said having Sanchez in the building allows the team to be patient with their search (which sounds like code for: wait out Kaepernick and the 49ers).
Elway isn't going to blink. The ball is in the 49ers' court. I don't see Kaepernick restructuring (what motivation does he have?) and I don't see York eating that much contract. In the end, I'm sticking to my original thought and saying that nothing happens.

John says it's sleep not put to rest. I still feel strong that the trade goes down if the 9'ers draft a QB. I have them taking Carson Wentz in my mock. The trade is done just on hold. I still agree that Mark is a serviceable enough QB to get us where we want to be. Kaepernick is more exciting only because of his running ability, although he has a gun he isn't accurate. You know me I'm hardheaded at times and I still think Wentz drops He may even fall to the Browns if the 9'ers pick Paxton Lynch who in my eyes is more NFL ready.

If the 9ers pull Norman away from Washington, then they may entertain Lynch but the last year they took huge hits in the LB spot. Kap has no incentive to demand a trade and SF may need him if they look elsewhere at bigger holes.

I think they read the page myself. I have Lynch going to the 9ers at 7 bet you don't see that anywhere. I have a few more picks to make then I'll post my Mock.
