I'm sure this whole thing will get even weirder until the draft starts....and maybe all the way through the draft. The Iggles giving all that up to draft a question mark QB to add to the stable all of their other question mark QB's is mind boggling, at best. They'll have over half of their cap wrapped up in pedestrian QB's.

And no draft choices for years.

** I hereby submit my opposition to Brian [barely average] Hoyer signing with us.
the only Qb that has less upside than this guy is Blaine [plain jane] Gabbert

I mean really? #7 wouldn't really consider this guy? Don't tell me he is capable, So is Tebow, Mr. 40% passer,
yikes this would mean we are going to surrender the division to the Raiders or Chiefs cuz SD aint fixed yet.

So hear my presentation, Don't Trade up, (too high cost) Don't waste anymore time with the Kap deal, wait for 4/28 and see if Lynch or Prescott is there at 31. Much cheaper and a whole lot less drama.

Ok…a couple of things I’m thinking of this morning:

DT restructures so the Von Deal gets done. This is a no brainer for me as there is a clause in DT’s contract allowing the Broncos to convert any portion of the contract into a signing bonus (per ESPN…these dollars are prorated for cap purposes over the final 4 years of the deal). This move creates $9.18M in cap space.

Colquitt is going to be released. He may be back, he may not. This creates $3.25M in cap space.

So Denver will have $12.43M in cap space. Add in Von’s $14.1M and Denver has approximately $26.5M in cap space. I’m using the remainder of the current cap for rookie deals by the way. I see Denver working out a deal with Von after the draft so all trades and roster moves are squared away. I think Elway will get him to agree to somewhere around $20M/season with the same type of clauses that are in DT’s contract. I do think the guaranteed money will be significant. I trust Sullivan to structure this deal in a way that benefits both the Broncos and Miller.

So that leaves Denver around $6.5M in cap space to re-sign players headed to free agency next season. Here’s a quick look at next year’s bigger names and there FA status.

ERFA (Guys Denver basically can do what they want with as these guys have zero options):
WR – Bennie Fowler
OLB – Shaquil Barrett
C – Matt Pradis

I'd take all three of these guys back as they all contribute and will come cheap. Barrett is the no-brainer of the group.

RFA:
RB - Juwan Thompson
RB – Kapri Bibbs
DE – Kenny Anunike

I can see all three receiving tenders, though I can just as easily see all three gone. Depends on their 2016 campaign.

UFA:
OLB - Demarcus Ware
WR - Emmanuel Sanders
QB – Mark Sanchez
FS – Darian Stewart
ILB – Brandon Marshall
DT – Sylvester Williams
DE – Vance Walker
CB – Kayvon Webster

I would like to see Denver come to terms with Brandon Marshall during the season. He’s an anchor on the defense and will only be 27 in 2017. I would not extend anyone else during the season. When 2016 ends, Denver will be in a better contract position as Ware’s contract will be off the books. That said, I love Emmanuel Sanders and hope he’s back, but he will be 30 at the beginning of the 2017 season. I hope a deal gets done with him after this season that is a good veteran contract with incentives. I wouldn’t extend him during this season. I believe Mark Sanchez will play good in 2016 and will earn a solid contract from Denver. He will also be 30 at the beginning of the 2017 season, but (at worst) will be a solid #2 QB for another 4-5 years. I expect to sign him after the season. Stewart, Williams, Walker, and Webster will all be welcome back on team friendly deals. I do not view any of them as necessary (I’m assuming Denver drafts a safety to compete/unseat Stewart).

So there you go…it’s a lot to read, but my mind is working in overdrive right now and I needed to get it out of my head!

Thoughts?

Update on the Kaepernick thing from Elway's presser (via http://www.nfl.com):

Denver Broncos general manager John Elway said Thursday that trade talks with the San Francisco 49ers are "dormant."

"It's dormant," Elway said. "He's been working out from what I understand, so, that's all I can say about it."

Elway noted a trade offer remains on the table: "Everything's right there."

NFL Insider Ian Rapoport previously reported the Broncos want Kaepernick to take a pay cut to facilitate a trade. Elway and Kaepernick met two weeks ago to advance the feeling-out process, but an agreement never materialized.

Mark Sanchez currently sits atop the Broncos' depth chart. Elway clearly isn't done adding quarterbacks.

"We're going to have someone compete with Mark and he's one of the possibilities," Elway said.

Added the GM: "We're happy with Mark. Mark's excited about being here. We're excited about having him."

Elway said having Sanchez in the building allows the team to be patient with their search (which sounds like code for: wait out Kaepernick and the 49ers).

Elway isn't going to blink. The ball is in the 49ers' court. I don't see Kaepernick restructuring (what motivation does he have?) and I don't see York eating that much contract. In the end, I'm sticking to my original thought and saying that nothing happens.

John says it's sleep not put to rest. I still feel strong that the trade goes down if the 9'ers draft a QB. I have them taking Carson Wentz in my mock. The trade is done just on hold. I still agree that Mark is a serviceable enough QB to get us where we want to be. Kaepernick is more exciting only because of his running ability, although he has a gun he isn't accurate. You know me I'm hardheaded at times and I still think Wentz drops He may even fall to the Browns if the 9'ers pick Paxton Lynch who in my eyes is more NFL ready.

1 BIG problem with Wentz or Goff getting to SF, Philly traded a group of picks to get to #2. with that happening, I doubt seriously he goes beyond 3.

I agree with Jarhead Hop. I know you're serious about your mock, but unless Howie Roseman is pulling the greatest bluff in the history of the draft, Goff-Wentz go 1-2 in either order.

Here's the link to his comments:
http://www.bleedinggreennation.com/2016 ... econd-pick

What will be interesting is Lynch. If he is valued by the 49ers at #7, we could certainly see a deal for Kaepernick. All I'm saying is that Elway won't blink on this trade. He has his mind made up as to what he believes Kaepernick's value is. If Kaepernick doesn't restructure or York doesn't eat some of that contract, I do not believe there will be a deal.

In the end I trust Elway and Kubiak to make the best decision for the team going forward. I have no doubt that Kaepernick is an athlete. If Denver makes a trade to bring him to town, then I am comfortable that Elway/Kubiak believe that his struggles these last few years have to do with a mismanaged 49ers team and not Kaepernick himself.

Goff and Wentz will go 1,2 in either combination.

If the 9ers pull Norman away from Washington, then they may entertain Lynch but the last year they took huge hits in the LB spot. Kap has no incentive to demand a trade and SF may need him if they look elsewhere at bigger holes.

**I'm going to stick by my guns and say that #7 will not blink, or pull some bonehead play like trading up or starting the season with Sanchez. I don't see the 9ers getting their hands on Norman, according to ESPN sports guru's the bay area seems to be the pit of despair these days, which because of their mishandling of the whole Harbaugh situation, I mean really, lets just air ALL our dirty laundry in public.

Baalke & York are playing footloose and fancy free with all that cap money, seems to me you don't build championship teams that way, you build cellar dwellers.

Ask the Raiders (Pre Mckenzie) about that.

Maybe we go after Lynch but he still reminds me of Oz.

And Oz will be a mere footnote in the NFL after the Texans count on him. He's no 18 million dollar QB.

I think the 9ers wanted Paxton lynch all along he fits Kelly's offense They can get a ILB in the second or third. There is only one inside backer worth taking in the first and that's Reggie Ragland but he isn't worth taking before 15 IMO. Jacks is a OLB but I don't see him getting past the Ravens who pick right before them. Suggs needs a replacement.

They used to read the Fox page I think for sure. Probably read this one too.

I think the Niners take Lynch at 7 as well. Right now they have a bigger mess at QB than we do.

The Bolts now hold the key to how the draft goes if QB's indeed come off the board one and two. What happens at number three now dictates the rest of the draft.
