Think this is the right topic for this... Maybe Blue Zone Colts topic but interesting trivia - to some.

A record will be broken Sun: Jeff Saturday and Peyton Manning will start their 158th game together as Center and QB. Any idea whose record they're breaking???

Hint they have something or someone in common.

Hi CK, well, um thought I'd try to move the page along - lol!

Well, the common denominator is Bill Polian which should give it away

Aha! No wonder I would not have caught it. Jim Kelly/Dan Marino - same draft class. Jim Kelly, um, what was it, 4 (or maybe it was only 3) shots at winning a Super Bowl? Dan Marino? One! Obviously, my brain was clouded with unfortunate thoughts.

Here's another football trivia question, with no Googling allowed. Who was the only Super Bowl MVP who played on the losing team?

Duh! Ask that around a Texan, lol! I even know that one, though...he's from Dallas, and I'm pretty sure his name was Howley, but I can't remember his first name.

I couldn't think of that one, for some reason, dred. I was even drawing a blank on "Polian!" I don't know why. I did happen to remember that SuperBowl, because we got Shula not to much after it...so yours was a bit easier for me. :D By the time I think of Googling something, everyone has already answered the question. I suppose because I was raised running to reference books, the thought to Google has not yet taken over! There is no rule against ending a sentence with a preposition. That's a misinterpretation of Latin grammar (where it is impossible) that was taught to generations of children. On the other hand, the inclusion of purposeless prepositions is awful, as in "where is he at?"

True, Em; however, I had that drilled into me throughout my school years--I just can't stop! The good thing, though, is that my novels have tons of dialog, and then you have a lot of leeway. ;) I still have old students of mine (who just read) my novel. They love to call me on various grammar issues. I have to explain the difference between writing a term paper and writing a novel. I feel honored to know they read my book, and those are the calls/ I most enjoy

I might laugh out loud over (I wonder where they got to), but having taught high school for five years and seen where the English language has gone, your sentence doesn't even make me blink. Good try, though!

It reminds me of Henry Higgins' rant about "Why can't the English learn to speak?" You would think that the one thing anybody would get right would be their own language, but obviously they don't. I could tell horror stories about papers that I've received. The newspapers are no better. It is obvious that none of them have proofreaders anymore and rely on spell checkers. I've seen homonyms misused even in headlines. Don't they read their own newspaper?

To get the subject back to football, I love the way that the season has gone so far. If the Texans could maintain this pace, I'd be one happy fan.

Thanks, LadyHawk. The Texans have never even been 3-1 before in their short history. This is all new territory for us, but I like it!
