You can tell it's the first game of the season. Later in the year nobody will be that eager.

I don't know about anybody else, but I didn't find last night's game very exciting. I really thought that two teams with offenses like theirs would have scored more points.

I thought of you last night CK when Chris Collinsworth was jawing about how the Dolphins put Brees through 6 hours of physicals, testing, etc....and when he went to interview at New Orleans, they just said "We want you. Sign here."

I thought "I can hear CK yelling obscenities from here!"

You are SO right about that, Lady. It kills me all over again every time I have to watch him play. Can you imagine a mistake like that? Daunte Colpepper--in his declining years, no less! He hadn't played well for years AND was injury prone. I was a maniac!!!

Three years of Parcell--the magic number for his teams to go to the SB, and we are back where we were when Cameron (it makes me sick to type his name!) left us. I am distraught. I can't understand why everyone is talking like we are a viable team for play-offs this year. It's not that I am a worrier, it's that I've watched them play. Even in preseason you can get a feel for a team's strengths and weaknesses. All I saw were "things that needed work." They spent a fortune on Marshall and his play was abysmal. You watch--Camarillo, and probably even Ted Ginn, will be brilliant with their new teams. Not that I was a fan of Ginn's, or even that I wanted him to stay--I didn't, and I wasn't a big fan of Camarillo. It's just that I thought they were never used properly. Ginn showed early in his career that he was a return man, and ONLY a return man. He was simply not a reliable receiver, but they insisted on playing him at wide receiver. Camarillo's head got big very quickly. He needed to be shown that if you play crappy ball, you'll sit until you play ball well. He had the capability, but not the discipline.
Then, the first week of this season they drop that bomb about Parcells and Ireland. WTF was that all about??? The players' morale has to be shot! Clearly (IMO) the writing is on the wall, if Parcells is out (and I'm not buying that "consultant" thing either) then Sparano is out as well at the end of this season. I just do not understand what is going on!

Too many "celebrity" owners who know NOTHING about football operations, perhaps?

Exactly! This Ross guy is all about his celebs. The stadium looks like a Candyland board game with all that Brito stuff covering it. He's got that orange carpet for his peeps to enter the stadium and in between all the rap (and rappers who have their little piece of my team), he has all his celebs on the big screens singing "Fins Up." Ha! That's the new so-called fight song, you know. When we score (which is not often), they lead us in (the reggae rhythm) the "Fins Up" silly little song. I am so distraught. I hope I am wrong and everyone can make fun of me for being such a worrier, but that's what my gut is telling me. This clown is a real star-F*cker. The rumor around here is that Parcells was unhappy with the way things were going around here, including some of the moves that were made (while we're all out here thinking he makes all the calls). I long for an owner like Joe Robbie. With all his faults, he built our beautiful stadium with his own money, and made it a fan-friendly place for games. He knew how to choose a coach and left the coaching to the coach. He wasn't one for glitz and glitter, and he was far too tight with players' salaries (I can't imagine how many more perfect seasons and SBs might have been had he not let Kiick, Czonka and those others move to the WFL), but we were always in the hunt.

We were spoiled here in south Florida, for sure. Our infant team was a winner, as were all those who followed and then suddenly, we're at the bottom of the game. It's like we've fallen and we can't get up!

Then Mr. Ross is an idiot. Yes, football is "show business." But its a different show business than what J. Lo, Marc Anthony and the Estefans' are into...

I like the Texans owner. Even most Texans fans don't know his name, because he keeps such a low profile. He is willing to spend a lot of money on the team, but you'll never see him on the sidelines.

My point, exactly. I'm so sad about what has happened. Some people think it's great because it fills the stadium and there's a younger, more vibrant crowd. They won't be so happy when this "younger, more vibrant crowd disappears because it has been proven in Miami, if the team is losing, the fans vamoose!

Unfortunately too many players think of football as show business. Wide receivers seem especially susceptible to it, although Fitzgerald and Johnson seem to be immune. Don't you just want to see one of those showboat get stood on his head?

I agree, LadyHawk, but with a reservation. Movies are show business, too, but the actors don't stop in mid-movie to tell us how great they are. They have to perform well and let the customers figure that out. I preferred the days when it was the same in football.

One of the things I learned in Mass Media class in high school was that anything you see on television is "show business." All "shows" are entertainment designed to hold your interest away from family activities, being outdoors, etc. And its about the networks making money....that's where sponsors and commercials come into play.

So I will stand behind this one: NFL football is show business. Pure and simple.

I got a kick out of watching Bill Cowher "coaching" a player on the sideline after he'd blown a play. It reminded me of Vince Lombardi, who could make some tough guys cry. One of Lombardi's great Black players remarked that Vince wasn't prejudiced. "He treats us all the same - like dogs."

That'd be fine with me, Try. I just don't know what happens to these great coaches when they get to the Dolphins. Johnson failed, Parcells has most surely failed. I would hate to see Cowher come in and f*ck up as well. Three and out? I know one thing, it would be a great step if we could get a football-oriented owner... I don't care if I never see a "star" in our stadium again.

I'd give my eye teeth to be wrong--and I would gladly take all the teasing and bullying anyone wants to bestow on me if I am. In fact, I hope I am so wrong that they go to the SB and win!!!!! (Does anyone know what this "Mr. Green" icon is for? I always think of it as kind of a sleezy eat sh*t and die guy...)
