I prefer the term "hoverer" as this sounds more angelic like me.

30 days until 49er training camp starts! Rejoice in this because the pain of the long off-season will be much more painful next year when there is a work stoppage due to the CBA going into the toilet :x

The local forecast is for thunderstorms every day though the Fourth of July weekend. There go a lot of barbecues. Backers of the local politicians spend a lot of money laying out the works that weekend and I get a lot of invitations. I'm sure that ck gets the same, since she knows politicians.

Hey CW - No I don't go to the leper colony anymore now that I have cast off to exile island. My IP address is banned by the unspoken one. Thanks for your comment. I totally agree about Sing, his passion as a player has carried over to his coaching style. I sure wouldn't want to get on his bad side. Vernon Davis found out the hard way - Peace Bro!

Right! I meant that to apply to both. I got to know my then congressman in the Seventies pretty well. The VA just discarded my letters unopened, but things happened when my congressman called. I thought that it was going to take a special act of congress to get a prosthesis to take the place of my left foot. Apparently they were trying to forget that Vietnam ever happened.

I have a question: in the listing of topics, some are marked by symbols - a heart, a couple of stars and others that I'm not sure about. What do they indicate?

I think they're just icons that the topic creator put there for fun.

What is Eastern Washington like? I have a vague idea that it's much dryer than the area west of the Cascades.

Most folks have a mental picture of Texas that doesn't look much like the photo below, but that's what it's like in my corner of the state. It's much more like Southwest Louisiana than the common idea of Texas. The culture and cuisine are also more like Louisiana. If you like Cajun food, this is a great place to live.

You are correct sir. It is much dryer than the western side of the state and not nearly as green, but still beautiful. Lots of rolling hills and farm land with wheat fields, apple orchards and vineyards.

Wow, that's beautiful! Here on the coastal plain the land is so flat that they have to put up signs so the water will know which way to run. That's why there are bayous. The closest things to hills are overpasses.

My apology for the blank post below. Approximately 1 million years ago Washington State was an island that was part of the Aluetian chain. Due to massive shifts in the Earth's mantle, the island of Washington drifted into what is now North America creating the Cascade Mountains in a violent uprising as the two land masses collided.

Over the millenium a dry arid Eastern region was created on the Eastern plateaus. The plateau region was the perfect climate for sunflowers, fire ants and prairie dogs to flourish. The topography is very hostile though. Nasa actually used this area as a training ground as it closely replicates the lunar surface. To this day giant fire ant mounds still dot the landscape. Tours are available by helicopter. Average annual tempratures range from highs in the low 100s to lows in the high 80s. Average rainfall is 6".

The Western region's wetter climate nurtured tropical rain forests and was home to wild monkeys, chinchillas and Seahawks. Bamboo became a major export for Western Washington. Pier One buys most of this natural resource now. The name Seattle Seahawks comes from one of the original indiginous animals. The Seattle Chinchillas just didn't have the same menacing sound and on April 13, 1753 the Washington legislature ratified the Seahawk clause thus making it the official state bird as well as the state's NFL mascot. The state's tourism commission warns visitors to stay out of the Pacific as vicious sea serpants still ply the waters off the coast. Countless fishing boats have been lost to them. Average annual tempratures range from highs in the high 50s to lows in the high 30s. Average rainfall is 132"

I hope this helps - 16

We have worlds of fire ants, but sightings of sea serpents are rare. Sadly, the incursions of the fire ants have greatly reduced the population of the big red ants. That is sad, because they were the diet of horned toads, long a Texas curiosity.

Actually they are called Texas Horned Frogs. This little reptile is tenacious and when attacked can shoot blood out of it's eyes for a distance of approximately 4' Several varieties exist from the smallest version which is the size of your thumb nail to the great Horned Frog which is approximately 6" long --- I know because I went to TCU - GO FROGS GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Go Frogs indeed! When I was a shirttail kid, most boys had a horned toad for a pet at one time or another. The trouble was you had to collected red ants to feed them and the ants wouldn't go without a fight. Usually in a few weeks we would reduce the horned toads from their cigar boxes near a big anthill.

TCU? TCU? TCU? Why does that sound familiar? Oh yeah, my wife's nephew is moving there to be an assistant coach for the football team. San Antonio I believe.

Both Texas and Washington are about as far away from South Florida as it gets. These days it feels like a sauna here to boot these days!
